Default Some Guild Wars Questions..

I just started playing GW a few days ago and have some questions about it,

First off, Does it have a lot of armour/weapon choice for all the different classes? Ive heard a lot of people say thats what guild wars lacks (Armour and Weapons)

Second, about how big is the Guild Wars Map compared to other MMORPGs? bigger then most or smaller then most?

Third, I played WoW for about a week then completely hated it, so is it going to be the same way with GW? or is it a lot funner? I heard some say its better because the game is really uniqie compared to other games.

Last off, do the expansions make the game a lot better, because I was considering buying factions when I get enough cash, but I wasnt sure if its worth it.

Please reply and thanks

Well, i can't answer the armor/weapon question because GW is the only MMO i've played.

But GW is more casual than WoW from what i've heard.

There is only 1 expansion really, but 3 different GW games that you can link to 1 account and play them with all your characters.
Do you have the original? If not that would be a very good purchase, as it has the biggest learning curve.

Factions is a bit on the short side, but it is tied with prophecies(original) for my favorite campaign.
Nightfall and the expansion Eye of the north both include heroes.

So, yeah, anything else i might have forgotten?:P

Well I don't know how you feel about snooping around wikis before you play a game. But if you go to The offical guild wiki you should be able to get the answers you are looking for.

if you're looking for a PvE aspect then when you get the money, get nightfall. While factions is my favorite, its much more fast paced and more geared to help the PvP aspect of the game. Thats just my opinion but im sure most people would agree with me. There's always Eye of the North which is fun, but it can get pretty difficult for new players.

I'm a new player to GW myself, and like it so far. I also played WoW for 2 years plus.

You'd have to say what you hated about WoW after a week for anyone to give an informed opinion, as there's no way you can have experienced the main issues that cause people to hold GW in higher regard than WoW, e.g. PvP imbalance in classes and equipment.

Guild Wars does provide a nice selection of armor and weapons, especially if you have more than 1 campaign (characters from core professions can travel to any campaign and get different sets of armor there). There are numerous core and campaign-specific weapon skins that you can get as random drops or form collectors. The key w/ armor, though, is whether you like the specific style each profession is given; you may like necromancers, but you may not like the emo/goth theme a lot of their armor has.

Guild Wars is a game meant to be enjoyed by both the casual and more hardcore gamer. Just as an example, you can probably complete Factions in under 12 hours if you only do the main missions and quests. Prophecies is a bit longer of a campaign, and nightfall is somewhere between the two. There is a lot to explore, which is made more accessible by virtue of being able to travel to any town or outpost you've already been to, instantly.

The key difference w/ GW as opposed to WoW is that GW is about the skills you take and the tactics you use in putting together a team. Having a rare weapon isn't any more effective than one you can get for free from a collector. The same goes for armor; a basic (but max) armor set is going to be as good as rare or collector's armor - it's only about aesthetics.

The other Campaigns and GWEN offer more skills, more areas to explore, more weapon and armor skins, and different types of enemies & environments to fight. The combinations of skills from the various campaigns can make for some very powerful skill bars, and you may like how a Factions sword looks w/ a Nightfall shield, etc.

Just look at how many different swords there are. Now keep in mind there are staves, daggers, bows, wands, focus items, etc

There are also over 30 armor types per profession (each looks different per profession, and there are male and female versions), which can be mixed and matched and dyed.

GW gear - armor, weapons and misc, falls way short of whats in a mmorpg. I never played WoW but I did play EQ for several years and the amount of interesting loot in EQ is several magnitudes greater than whats in GW.

In GW gear might look different but its all the same - in other games gear looks and acts differently and there is always something just a little better to get. In GW you have 7 slots to fill and most of the gear can be vendor bought meaning that everyone has top gear. In other games you have 20+ slots to fill and need to loot most of the interesting gear and getting decent gear is constant work.

So, if gearing up (constantly) is what makes you tick GW will probably seem lackluster. The advantage on the other hand is that you dont need to play endless hours to gain and retain competitive gear - something you definitely need to do in other games.

I like the "get leet equipz right naow" thing - because once you obtain your maxed out gear... you rarely need to worry about getting new stuff. You of course will need new/different stats or whatever on an item, (i.e. most/some? people use a few different armor and weapon sets), but its not that detrimental to how you play.

Not a super huge map, but pretty good size if you own all 4 games.

Umm. never played WoW, but from what I hear/understand/bandwagon... GW > WoW yaya

And yeah, I would say the "expansions" do make it better... but I would probably recommend Nightfall over Factions as your next purchase. Won't go into details there, just what I believe.

Good luck and have fun!
